I was getting my haircut the other day and there was this mountain biking in the snow racing deal on. I'd never seen that. They were putting spikes in the tires and testing out the traction by running their hands over a spinning tire and wearing some kind of protective glove that was then getting torn up by the spikes. It was fascinating and whenever I see something like this I can't help but think about our ancestors...as I often do. What would they be thinking? Take pretty much any timeline...100 years, 500, 10,000 years ago.
For the vast majority of our existence we struggled for water, food and shelter. That was it. We were essentially animals trying to survive but with the ability to ponder the past and fear the future. I get obsessed about this thinking and it's my biggest downfall. Has been for decades. I have the hardest time accepting how great we have it and that our basic needs have evolved. We're constantly saying I need this and I need that and I'm so quick to be that annoying old man that says "ya, but do you NEED it?". Well...I finally accepted that, ya, there are things beyond the basics that we actually need now in order to fit in modern society. Perfect example is this damn iphone 11 of mine. The apps are struggling in many cases so now I have to upgrade.
Seriously Apple...be cool man...I don't even WANT a new phone.
This was going to evolve into a post about how to get what you want/need but now I'm just irritated about Apple and my cloud being full.
